ANNE ARUNDEL, Md. – The Anne Arundel County Police Department reports that a fatal crash on Capital Raceway Road left one motorist dead. The incident occurred on Route 3 at Capital Raceway Road and involved a passenger vehicle and a motorcycle.

According to officials, the preliminary investigation of the crash revealed that a Kawasaki motorcycle, traveling southbound on Route 3, was hit when a light colored van or SUV pulled from Capital Raceway Road, crossed two lanes of traffic, then abruptly turned left onto a crossover to north bound onto Route 3. The motorcyclist struck the other vehicle, causing the rider to be ejected from the motorcycle. The van or SUV did not remain at the scene and is believed to have fled northbound on Route 3.

The motorcyclist received serious injuries from the impact and died.

At this time, officers believe that speed on the part of the motorcyclist may be a factor in the case. However, the investigation by the Traffic Safety Section of the Anne Arundel County Police Department is ongoing.
