Detectives arrest suspect in Hyattsville Homicide

PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, MD – Prince George’s County police have arrested a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting in Hyattsville.

Jason Timothy Herring, 35,  of Hyattsville has been charged with first degree murder, second degree murder and attempted murder after fatally shooting James Albert Haywood, 29, of Laurel on Wednesday.

At about 5:15 pm on Wednesday, officers were called to the 3500 block of 55th Avenue in Hyattsville after a report of a shooting. When they arrived, officers found Haywood suffering from a gunshot wound inside of his home. He was taken to a hospital where he died a short time later. There was a second victim in the home who wasn’t hurt.

Police say that the shooting stemmed from an ongoing dispute between the victim and suspect.
