Police investigate officer-involved shooting in D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C.  – Cathy Lanier, Chief of Police from the Metropolitan Police Department, responded to a police-involved shooting in the 300 block of H Street, Northeast on Sunday.

Around 6:30 a.m. Sunday morning, an off-duty officer observed an adult male carrying objects from a building in the 300 block of H Street, say police. The officer attempted to stop the man from shoplifting, at which point the suspect produced a firearm. According to officials, when the suspect did not comply with the officer’s commands, the officer discharged his weapon. The suspect’s weapon was recovered on the scene.

The suspect was transported to a local hospital. He is currently in critical but stable condition.
