Fire breaks out at a Prince George’s County strip mall

HYATTSVILLE, MD. – According to the Prince George’s County Fire Department, a two alarm fire broke out in a Hyattsville shopping center Sunday morning. The incident occurred in the 5400 block of Queens Chapel Road in Hyattsville, Maryland.

Around 7 a.m. Sunday morning, the Prince George’s County Fire Department responded to a fire at shopping center in Hyattsville. When they arrived, units on the scene noticed heavy smoke coming from the building and requested a second alarm. Units from the Montgomery County Fire Department came to aid the Prince George’s County units that were already on the scene.

Officials are saying that the fire originated inside Emerita’s Pupuseria & Carry-Out in the strip mall. However, the cause remains undetermined at this time. The Montgomery County Fire Department estimates the fire loss to be around $750,000.
