Pregnant woman dies from stabbing incident in Maryland

TAKOMA PARK POLICE, MD – Thursday, at approximately 3:00 am, Takoma Park Police detectives arrested Thierry Kinshala Nkusu, 33, of Silver Spring, Maryland and charged him with 2nd degree murder. Further charges are pending. Nkusu is being held on a $5M bond, with travel restrictions.

On Thursday, April 27,  at 2:01 pm, the Takoma Park Police Department responded to the 600 block of Houston Avenue, Takoma Park, Maryland, for the report of a suspicious situation. A male victim was found injured near an elevator nearby the lobby. Shortly after, officers located a female victim with multiple stab wounds in an apartment.

The male who was found injured near the lobby was identified as Nkusu. After being transported to the hospital, it was determined that Nkusu had superficial knife wounds that did not correlate with what he said occurred; he did not require surgery. Nkusu was transported from the hospital to the Takoma Park Police Department where he was taken into custody, arrested and transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit.

The female victim is identified as Maria Veronica Mbunga, 36, of Takoma Park, Maryland. Mbunga succumbed to her injuries. Mbunga’s unborn child also did not survive.

Mbunga was employed by Montgomery County Public School Transportation System as a bus driver.
