Fire in Montgomery County destroys home
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD – Early this morning, the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service responded to reports of a house fire in the 11700 block of Sherbrooke Woods Lane in the White Oak area of the county.
When they arrived on the scene, heavy fire had already destroyed the first and second stories of the home. The only occupant had gotten out of the burning home but was suffering from the after effects of smoke inhalation. It was neighbors who noticed the fire and called 911.
The firefighters quickly tried to extinguish the fire from the inside of the home. However, structural damage to the home forced them to evacuate. The house partially collapsed a short time later. Eventually, the fire was brought under control a few hours after they arrived on the scene.
Investigations are now being conducted to find a the cause of this fire. The home is a loss with total damages estimated at around $750,000. A neighboring home also suffered heat damage.
The occupant of the home was transported to a local hospital due to smoke inhalation. However, there were no injuries reported by the 85 firefighters on the scene.
