Jennifer Lopez has found herself in some hot water after performing a rendition of Happy Birthday for the President of Turkmenistan during a show. A spokesperson for Ms. Lopez said that neither her or her staff was aware of the civil rights abuses that the government is generally thought to commit. This is not the first time that performers have found themselves in this situation with Beyonce, Mariah Carey, and Usher all having performed at functions linked to former Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi. Those artists ended up donating the proceeds of those performances to charity. We’ll have to wait and see if Lopez follows suit.
