PRINCE WILLIAM CO. – Two men have been arrested in a hate crime after, police say, they yelled racist slurs at a Middle Eastern man and assaulted him.

The 35-year-old victim was driving in the area of Ashton Avenue near Sudley Manor Drive in Manassas on Monday when he was cut off by a pickup truck, police say.

The truck stopped in front of the victim, and police say the driver and passenger started yelling at the victim.

Jimmy Greer, 56, and David Greer, 25, yelled “go back to your country” and “you don’t belong here” at the victim, according to police.

At some point, police say David Greer got out of the truck, grabbed the victim, and assaulted him.

The victim attempted to drive away on I-66, and the suspects followed him.

The victim pulled into Manassas Safety Rest Area and Welcome Center and contacted police. Police say the suspects fled the area before officers arrived.

The victim gave police the truck’s license plate, which led detectives to identify the suspects as Jimmy Greer and David Greer.

Detectives believe the victim was targeted because of his Middle Eastern national origin.

Police arrested Jimmy Greer and David Greer Wednesday at a hotel in Manassas.

Both are facing charges for a hate crime assault and battery. Jimmy Greer was also charged with reckless driving, police say.

Both were released on a $5,000 bond and will appear in court June 12.
