Pedestrian killed after walking into oncoming traffic

PRINCE GEORGE’S CO. – A pedestrian, who police say walked into oncoming traffic on the highway, is dead after being struck by a car.

The crash happened around 9 p.m. Saturday on US 301, south of Berry Street in Brandywine, Maryland.

Maryland State Police say the man was attempting to cross a highway on foot when he walked directly into the path of an approaching vehicle.

That’s when police say a Chrysler vehicle struck and killed the victim, who has not been identified yet. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police identified the driver of the Chrysler as 28-year-old James Williams II. There was a second passenger in the car police identified as a male child. Neither were injured in the crash.

Police say alcohol is believed to be a factor in this incident.

An autopsy will be conducted at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Lane closures around the scene lasted until about 5:50 a.m. Sunday.
