ANNE ARUNDEL CO. – Three people were killed in a fire at a group home in Severn Saturday night, fire officials say.

Firefighters responded to the 7900 block of Stone Heart Road just before 11 p.m.

The first responding firefighters reported heavy fire coming from the rear of the home.

Some occupants that escaped informed firefighters of someone who was possibly still inside.

Officials say firefighters immediately entered the home and removed one adult who was pronounced dead at the scene.

During additional searches, officials say two more adult victims were found dead. Four other occupants escaped without injury.

The deceased include two adult male residents and one female worker at the home operated by the Arundel Lodge. Those victims were taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for positive identification and autopsy.

Fire officials say the fire was extinguished in about an hour by 45 firefighters.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
