According to police, this is not the first time that the suspect has tried to kidnap someone.
“It’s a little bit scary, you know, if you have kids.”, said resident, Cesar Castillo who lives just a couple of blocks from the 7-Eleven which sits on the corner Clopper and Mateny Roads.
Police said that a man in his 30s, driving a small, white SUV asked a 13-year-old girl if she needed a ride home from the store.
When she declined the offer, police said the man parked his car, got out and attempted to grab her and pull her into his car.
Luckily, the girl was able to break free, but the incident has Castillo worried now for his own kids’ safety.
“I have two sons that are teenagers, working and coming around 9/10 o’clock from work. It’s a little bit scary because they take the bus and they walk all the way from there to here.”, said Castillo.
He also said that the 7-Eleven in question has been the subject of two robberies in the past.
According to the victim, police said there was a man walking his dog who told the suspect to get away from her as she was being attacked.
Vera Dias is just one year older than the victim and said that she used to walk to the 7-Eleven frequently, but no longer feels safe.
“Before I was coming to here, but now, I am scared about it, so probably not anymore.”, said Dias.
Police released a composite sketch of the suspect, described as a 30-something Hispanic man, clean shaven and skinny and smelling “clean”, as if he’d just bathed, and wearing a black jacket and blue jeans.
Police have said that the same man is accused of twice, trying to kidnap a 16-year-old girl about eight weeks ago by also asking her if she needed a ride.
That happened at the 18000 block of Leaman Farm Road, also in Germantown.
