Police: 2 teens arrested for fatally shooting man in Adelphi
PRINCE GEORGE’S CO. – Police say they have identified and charged two suspects for a fatal shooting in Adelphi last month.
On March 22, at approximately 5:45 pm, officers responded to the 1900 block of Laguna Road for the report of a shooting. When they arrived on scene, police say officers found the victim outside suffering from gunshot wounds. He died of his injuries several hours later, according to Prince George’s County Police.
Police say the suspects are 19-year-old Freddy Mendez-Cruz of Takoma Park and 16-year-old Christian Alvarado of Northeast, D.C. They’re charged in connection with the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Ruben Garcia-Ramos of Adelphi. Alvarado is charged as an adult.
The preliminary investigation reveals the fatal shooting stemmed from an ongoing dispute between Mendez-Cruz and the victim. Mendez-Cruz and the victim were acquaintances.
Officials say Alvarado and Mendez-Cruz are charged with first and second degree murder. They have confessed to their involvement and are both in the custody of the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status, police say.
