MONTGOMERY CO., – We are in the middle of winter and the flu has been hitting hard everywhere in the nation. Thousands of adults and children have been experiencing flu-like symptoms but the culprit might be something altogether more sinister; carbon monoxide poisoning.

According to the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue service many symptoms of the flu are the same as carbon monoxide poisoning. The longer the CO symptoms are overlooked though, the more difficult it becomes to treat. The symptoms generally progress as exposure increases. If exposed for long enough CO poisoning can become life-threatening, including coma, seizures, brain damage, and even death.

CO cannot be detected by human senses, the only way to detect it is to install CO alarms in your home. It is always a good thing to be prepared be proactive, if you have a fire alarm in your home, why not a CO alarm as well.
