UPDATE: 16-year-old girl shot in NE D.C. has died
WASHINGTON, D.C. – A 16-year-old girl who was shot in Northeast, D.C. Thursday has died.
Police say the victim succumbed to her injuries on Sunday. She has been identified as Taiyania Thompson of Northeast, D.C.

ORIGINAL POST: Police are investigating after a 16-year-old girl was shot in Northeast, D.C. Thursday.
Officials say it happened just after 3:00 p.m., when officers responded to the 1000 block of Mt. Olivet Road to reports of shots fired. Police say, when they arrived, they found a girl who had been shot in the head. She was transported to a local hospital, and officials say she’s in very serious condition.
DC Police Chief Peter Newsham reports that they do have a person of interest in custody, but it’s not known at this time if that person was involved in the incident.
