A dozen displaced after Gaithersburg apartment fire
MONTGOMERY CO. – A dozen are displaced after a 2-alarm fire at a Gaithersburg apartment building broke out Monday.
Officials say there was a fire in the pipes between furnished rooms in a 4-story residential building at the 9900 block of Shelburne Terrace in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
A Montgomery Fire spokesperson says 4/5 of the units are affected and the whole building was evacuated. Damages are estimated at $150,000.
The fire originated on a second-floor balcony. The resident was a smoker and the only known ignition source within the area was a discarded smoking material, fire officials say.
One non-life threatening injury was reported.
