Merriweather Post Pavillion’s roof collapses

HOWARD CO. – Merriweather’s pavilion roof unexpectedly collapsed Saturday morning.

It was in the process of a 5-year renovation project to hydraulically lift the roof 20 feet over a period of months. The roof was in its near-final position, and the next step was to secure the roof permanently.

Around 2:30 a.m., the roof collapsed. No one was injured. An expert team is examining how the roof fell.

“Nobody was hurt. That is, of course, the most important thing. Second most…yes everything will be ready for season opening,” said Seth Hurwitz, chairman of I.M.P.

A Merriweather Post Pavilion spokesperson says its 2018 season will continue as planned and they will rebuild.
