Two found dead in Seat Pleasant house fire

SEAT PLEASANT, MD -- Two bodies were found in a Seat Pleasant, Md. home after an early Thursday morning fire.

The Prince George's County Fire Department said the fire started shortly before 5:30 a.m. at a home in the 6300 block of Foote St. and engulfed the basement, first, and second floors of the home.

A department spokesman said the fire was extinguished within 20 minutes. Afterwards, firefighters found two bodies on the second floor.

Neighbors told DCW50 that the home had been vacant for about a year, but various people had been squatting in the home.

Fire investigators said the cause of the fire, the cause of death of the two bodies found in the home and their identity, likely will not be determined until an autopsy has been completed.

Later in the day, firefighters returned to the neighborhood to ask residents if they had working smoke alarms in their homes. If they did not, the fire department would provide and install one free of charge.

It is unknown if there was a working smoke alarm in the house that caught fire.
