Prince George’s school aide gets 75 years in child porn case

Deonte Carraway

PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. — A former elementary school volunteer was sentenced to 75 years in prison today after he plead guilty to recording videos of children under his supervision performing sexual acts with him and on each other.

Deonte Carraway, 22, worked as an assistant at a Prince George’s County elementary school from 2014 through 2016. He also directed a children’s choir at a local church. Prosecutors say he used these roles to gain the trust of parents so he could then abuse their children.

From late 2015 through early 2016, Carraway molested children between the ages of 9 and 11 and recorded these acts on his phone. He also forced children to perform sex acts with each other, and recorded those as well.

Carraway admitted that he founded a “club” of children, and that children who wanted to join had to send sexually explicit photos of themselves to his phone.

“Deonte Carraway abused at least 12 child victims,” said U.S. Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein. “Fortunately, an alert relative checked a child’s smartphone, found an inappropriate photo and called the police. That call may have prevented more children from being abused.”

Carraway plead guilty in January and was sentenced today, reported the Associated Press. The case has led to several lawsuits being filed against the already-embattled Prince George’s school system.
