Reston woman escapes attempted sexual assault

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. -- Neighbors are in Reston are in disbelief after police say a 22-year-old woman was walking down North Shore Drive on Monday afternoon, was dragged into the woods by a man who attempted to sexually assault her.

“It makes me feel very unsafe walking my dog alone. And, i don’t know, it happened in the middle of the day, so you can’t really be safe at night, you know, going out alone and stuff.”, said Ashley Rader, who walks that stretch frequently with her neighbor.

According to Fairfax County Police, the man was attempting to take off the woman’s clothing when he suddenly stopped and ran away.

Police have described the suspect as a short Hispanic man with brown hair, a full beard, and wearing a gray shirt with red lettering and red baseball cap who is believed to be in his late 20s or early 30s.

“Hopefully they catch him. I’ll definitely be on the lookout. I know all of my neighbors and people I speak with will be on the lookout also.”, said Rader.

Police also say the suspect may have been driving a gray or silver Hyundai.

The woman in this case was able to get away unharmed and no medical attention was needed.
