‘Senseless’: D.C. 17-year-old dies after being shot in car

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A teenage girl from Northeast died on Saturday after she was hit with a bullet while sitting in a car.

Jamahri Sydnor, 17, was found suffering from a gunshot wound inside a vehicle in the 1400 block of Saratoga Avenue on August 10. She was rushed to the hospital in grave condition, and died two days later.

MPD Chief Peter Newsham described her death as “senseless” in a tweet, saying, “A seventeen year old is struggling for her life because someone thought it was OK to fire an illegal firearm in our community.”

A man was also injured in the shooting, and was taken to the hospital. No word has been given about his condition. A 21-year-old man has been charged with assault with intent to kill in this case, but police have yet to release his name.

Newsham implied there were other suspects still on the loose, tweeting out, “If the others involved have any sense of decency they will turn themselves in.”
