DC fire crews battle 3 fires, 1 firefighter critically injured
WASHINGTON, D.C. – D.C. Fire and EMS reported that they battled three fires on Wednesday night and into Thursday morning. Officials say one firefighter was critically injured while helping to put out one of the fires.
One of the fires broke out in the 800 block of F Street, Northeast in a row house. The fire was knocked out, but officials report that one firefighter was transported with critical injuries. He has been identified as Dane Smothers, Jr.
Another fire broke out in the 1700 block of Buchanan Street, Northeast. The fire started in the first floor of house. Officials say that there was one resident with serious injuries. Two other residents and two police officers were also transported to local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.
The third fire started in the basement of a home in the 1300 block of Van Buren Street, Northwest. Officials say that fire was brought under control. There were no civilian injuries in that fire, but authorities say one firefighter was evaluated by EMS.
D.C. Fire and EMS reported that while they were battling the three fires simultaneously, the Montgomery County, Alexandria, and Prince George’s County fire departments filled in at their stations.
