This week's Opening Act is The JoGo Project a band from the Washington, DC area combining elements of jazz, funk, r&b, rock, even pop, and of course, Go-Go musics to create a fresh, healthy blend of styles that is sure to keep you on the dance floor!
They are playing a show at the The Jazz in the Garden Series. A free concert series in DC that features jazz artists performing a wide variety of styles—salsa, blues fusion, xylophone, Afrofunk, and more—every Friday evening from 5:00 to 8:30 in the National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden thru the month of Aug.
The JoGo Project was founded by saxophonist Elijah Jamal Balbed in 2014, the goal of The JoGo Project is to unite cultures and communities, by introducing jazz fans to Go-Go and vice versa. In the spirit of the Godfather of Go-Go, Chuck Brown, they want everybody to come together as one and experience the music and the vibes together.
