FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. — A former Alexandria principal is due to appear in court in August after he was charged with assault and battery of a 12-year-old female student.

Terrence Yarborough, 53, is accused of smacking the girl on the behind in the Carl Sandburg Middle School cafeteria in April. Police say that he asked her to pick something up off the floor. The girl said no two times, after which Yarborough is accused of smacking her buttocks.

The victim is said to have fled the cafeteria and reported this to a teacher. The school resource officer, FCPS authorities and Child Protective Services were notified and began to investigate. Yarborough was removed from campus and placed on administrative leave.

On July 10, a criminal summons was obtained, charging him with misdemeanor assault and battery. He is scheduled to appear in Fairfax County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court on August 4.
