HOWARD COUNTY, Md. — Howard County Police have released a statement that reports two of their officers were involved in a fatal shooting in Mt. Airy on Monday morning.

The shooting took place on the Frederick side of the county line. HCPD reports that the officers were in Frederick as part of a multi-jurisdictional investigation into a series of burglaries.

Because of this, the shooting is being investigated by the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office. HCPD states they will cooperate fully in their investigation, as well as conducting their own internal investigation.

The two officers, who are “members of a specialized unit focused on repeat offenders”, are now on administrative leave. They were uninjured in the shooting.
