PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. -- Prince William County Police are investigating after gunshots left three people, including a child,  injured at an apartment complex  in Triangle, Va on Wednesday.

Residents of the Southampton Apartments said they were shocked that the shooting happened in their community, but say the complex has been on the decline, adding that they have seen an increase in drug activity.

"When I moved in, it was beautiful... and they turned it over, or somebody else bought them out and it's been going down ever since.", said Frances Deloach.

She has lived in the Southampton Apartments with her family for the last three years and called it a peaceful community. However, she said that's all changed after Police say two adults and a child were sitting in their car in apartment’s parking lot when, out of nowhere, the car was riddled with gunshots.

According to police, the victims then drove to nearby Inn Street near Joplin Road to call police.

According to Frances, it's the second shooting in six months.

"They've moved in some interesting characters so I'm not surprised.", she says.

The victims escaped with only minor injuries, likely due to the shattered glass from the windows, according to police.

Detectives are now trying to figure out a motive and catch whoever is responsible. They believe the suspect fled the scene in a black or dark colored SUV with temporary tags.

Anyone who knows anything about this shooting is asked to contact Prince William County Police.
