Child drowns at licensed day care in Northeast D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A child who would have turned two this month died today, after an accidentally drowning at a licensed child development home in Northeast.

DC Fire received a call today for a drowning in the 300 block of 17th Street, and transported the child to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Office of the State Superintendent of Education confirmed that the drowning occurred at a licensed child development home.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the child,” said the OSSE in a statement. “We are investigating this matter in coordination with the Metropolitan Police Department and Child and Family Services Agency. As this matter is an active investigation, all questions should be directed to the Metropolitan Police Department.”
