MONTGOMERY VILLAGE, Md. - The Montgomery County Police Department is investigating a double homicide that occurred Monday night in Montgomery Village, Maryland.
According to officials, officers arrived in the 8200 block of Gallery Court around 10:45 p.m. on Monday night after receiving calls reporting gunfire in the area. Once there, police found two victims inside a vehicle parked on the street. They were both suffering from apparent gunshot wounds and died on the scene.
Police have identified those victims as 17-year-old Shadi Adi Najjar and 18-year-old Artem S. Ziberov.
Both were seniors at Northwest High School in Germantown, Md. and were set to graduate Tuesday at a ceremony at DAR Constitution Hall.
Instead, a moment of silence was held for the two teens at the start of the ceremony, followed by a tribute from the school's principal, Jimmy D'Andrea, later in the program.
"For me, I’ll remember them as both excellent students, but also very personable. And two individuals who really cared about all of their other classmates as well," added D'Andrea after the graduation. He said he would deliver their diplomas to their families later this week and discuss next steps in honoring the two teens.
Earlier in the day, D'Andrea had sent a letter home to parents about their murders.
This is the e-mail message I just sent to all parents. Incredibly sad. pic.twitter.com/T5stPUAzJw
