Woman killed in wrong-way crash on US 50, child critically injured

ANNAPOLIS, MD — Maryland State Police is investigating a deadly crash, they said a woman died Wednesday¬†after driving the wrong way on Route 50 and hitting two vehicles outside Annapolis, Maryland.

Police say the car was heading west in the eastbound lanes of Route 50 around 1:30 when it hit an SUV and another car head-on between Ritchie Highway and Bay Dale Drive.

Anne Arundel County Fire Spokesperson, Russ Davies, tweeted that the the child in the wrong-way car was airlifted by a state police helicopter to a trauma center with critical injuries.

Davis also tweeted that a male in his 50’s was medevac to a shock trauma center where he later died.

No word on injuries from the drive of passenger on the third vehicle involved.

Immediately after the crash, state police shut down both sides of U.S. 50 and shortly after 4 p.m., the two westbound lanes were reopened.

Police have not released the identity of the driver killed. They are still investigating how everything unfolded.
