Water main break in Ellicott City causes sinkhole

ELLICOTT CITY, Md. – The Howard County Police Department reports a water main break in Ellicott City on Wednesday morning.

According to officials, police were called to the 8600 block of Main Street around 3:21 a.m. after reports of a water main break. When they arrived, the found the water had created a sinkhole underneath an unoccupied vehicle. Officials say there were no injuries, but police did ask residents to move their vehicles from the affected area.

At this time, Main Street is closed between Rogers Avenue and Klein Avenue. The Howard County Bureau of Utilities is working to shut off the water main. There is no estimate of when the water main or the road will be repaired.
