PG detectives arrest man in cold case

Darryl Strickland, 49, has been charged with first and second degree murder. He is being held on a no-bond status.

PRINCE GEORGE’S CO, MD — New evidence helped detectives make an arrest into a 10-year-old cold case in Prince George’s County.

Darryl Strickland, 49, has been charged with first and second degree murder in connection to homicide in Landover Hills back in 2007, police said.

On April 6, 2007, officers were called in around 6 a.m. to a motel in the 3900 block of 62nd Ave., for a medical emergency.  Once officers arrived, they found 44-year-old Sharon Cunningham dead at the scene. A medical examiner says Cunningham’s autopsy revealed she had been strangled and ruled her death a homicide.

Detectives say based on new evidence from a witness, detectives say were able to charge Strickland with murder. Police say both Strickland and Cunningham had been involved in a previous relationship.

Stickland is being held at the Department of Corrections.
