Kenan M. Ozcan

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. — A man is behind bars tonight after police say he was involved in a “possibly intentional” hit and run incident that killed a 75-year-old Fairfax woman.

Kenan Ozcan, 31, also of Fairfax, has been charged with felony hit and run and attempted robbery. The victim, Maria Ascencio, 75, was struck once near the intersection of Route 50 and Rugby Road, then the car that hit her turn around and struck her a second time before fleeing the scene.

Police believe Ascensio may have been intentionally run over. They arrested Ozcan in her death after a woman at a nearby shopping center reported a man acting strangely. Police say that he became agitated after the women took a photo of him, then assaulted her.

Officers took Ozcan into custody after this incident. While they were investigating, they found damage to the front end of his car, and based on this and other evidence, decided to charged Ozcan in the accident that killed Ascensio.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Fairfax County Police Department at 703-691-2131.
