Police investigate deadly officer involved shooting

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. – The Montgomery County Police department is investigating a fatal officer involved shooting that happened Monday night in Montgomery Village, Maryland.

According to officials, the officer was investigating a call for a theft in the area of 10022 Stedwick Road around 11:15 p.m. That officer requested assistance, stating that shots had been fired. He also said that Fire and Rescue personnel were required. When assistance arrived, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. Officials say he was transported to an area hospital, where he later died.

At this time, the investigation into the incident is ongoing. Officials say that they will release the identity of the man once his next of kin is notified. The officer involved in the shooting was a five year veteran of the Montgomery County Police Department, according to officials. He will be placed on paid administrative leave during the investigation.
