UPDATE: suspect hiding in movie theater has been arrested

PRINCE GEORGE’S CO., MD – Officers arrested a man who had barricaded himself inside the AMC Academy 8 at Beltway Plaza,¬†Tuesday afternoon.

Prince George’s County Police says the suspect was wanted for multiple burglaries and earlier today he was caught on surveillance “committing a burglary.” Officers tried arresting the suspect, but he ran away into the movie theater.

Detectives say the suspect climbed a scaffolding behind the movie screen, and hid in the ceiling. At one point a negotiator climbed up a ladder to negotiate with the suspect face-to-face.

There were more than two dozen police officers inside the movie theater. The county worked with the City of Greenbelt Police and the local fire department.

After negotiating for more than an hour, officers arrested the suspect.



The police department tweeted photos showing the tiles on the ground from when the suspect climbed to hide in the ceiling.

The movie theater was evacuated.
