Police: Alexandria man hit cruiser, charged with DWI

FAIRFAX CO., VA — A 31-year-old man is facing several charges including DWI after detectives say he crashed into a cruiser.

The crash happened on March 4 around 8:20 p.m., police say Toney Sampson was driving Richmond Highway near Arlington Drive when he hit the police car.

Fairfax County Police say the officer was not injured and following the crash the officer got out of the cruiser to check on the Sampson.  Immediately other officers arrived to the scene. They describe seeing Sampson “unsteady on his feet” as he walked around his car.  Officers also explained they smelled an odor of alcohol and conducted field sobriety tests.

Sampson was arrested and charged with DWI, refusal, possession of marijuana and failing to yield the right of way.
