UPDATE: Autopsy of remains in Fairfax Co. ruled a homicide

FAIRFAX, VA – An autopsy was conducted on the human remains found in the 7100 block of Wimsatt Road on Saturday, February 11. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled the death as a homicide. The victim suffered trauma to the upper body.

Detectives believe the victim is Damaris A. Reyes Rivas, 15, of Gaithersburg, Md. The teenaged girl was reported missing from Montgomery County, Md., on December 10, 2016. Detectives are following numerous leads and the investigation remains active.

(2/11/17) Remains Found Near Industrial Park

Franconia Police District – Major Crimes detectives are working to determine the identity of human remains discovered today (February 11) while helping another jurisdiction search for a missing juvenile. Our detectives began their search in Lake Accotink Park, 7500 Lake Accotink Park Road, in Springfield. They expanded their search to the surrounding area and discovered the remains of a female this afternoon in the 7100 block of Wimsatt Road, in Springfield. Detectives were unable to confirm the female’s identity.

An autopsy will be conducted on Monday by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

No further information is available at this time but detectives do not believe there is any threat to public safety. More information will be released as it becomes available.
