Prince George’s man dies after being shot in 2006, death ruled homicide

PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. — A man’s death on Christmas Eve has been ruled a homicide by police, after an autopsy proved that he died due to gunshot wounds sustained ten years ago from a suspect who has still never been identified.

On July 29, 2006, at about 10:45 pm, patrol officers were called to the 1300 block of Southview Drive in Oxon Hill for a shooting. Officers found Maurice Benton, 29, and two other victims inside of an apartment suffering from gunshot wounds. They were all taken to the hospital.

Detectives were notified that on December 24, 2016, Benton died at a hospital. After the autopsy, his death was ruled a homicide.
