DC-50s Robin Hamilton checks out the Gaylord’s Christmas on the Potomac
With Thanksgiving just around the corner, the holiday season is getting into full gear.
The Gaylord Hotel has officially kicked off its annual holiday tradition by turning their resort into a winter wonderland with Christmas on the Potomac.
The resort now boasts bedazzled trees, colorful lights and a Christmas Village showcasing their signature attraction Ice!
Ice!, designed under a 15,000 square foot climate-controlled tent (it’s 9 degrees in there to be exact), displays gigantic and colorful figurines, decorations and 5 slides. Visitors will have to wear a big blue parka (which the Gaylord lets you borrow) when walking through the tent.
This year’s theme, Christmas Around the World, illustrates how the holiday is celebrated in countries all over the globe.
The sculptors hail from Harbin, China, and worked with 6,000 ice blocks to create the frozen fantasy.
It takes sculptors 1 month to carve the figures, and guests will be surprised by the different colors and shapes that make these stories come to life.
After visitors have made their way through the tent (and have thawed out a little bit), they can make their way through the rest of the Christmas Village, take photos with Santa, participate in the Build-a-Bear workshop, or watch the light show in the atrium. The show is two times in the evening (7 or 9pm), and indoor snowflakes may even surprise a guest or two.
Now that sleigh bells are ringing, Christmas on the Potomac runs through January 7th. For more information, you can go to www.ChristmasOnThePotomac.com.
