MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — Detectives are investigating an assault that occurred at an Olney restaurant early Saturday morning that they say was motivated by homophobia.

Around 3 a.m. at the Greene Turtle bar and restaurant, officers were called to respond to an assault in progress. They found that the suspect, an adult male, had poured a glass of water on two men, called them slurs related to sexual orientation and challenged them to a fight.

Both groups left the restaurant, and a fight broke out in the parking lot. Fire and Rescue took two of the men involved to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives think they’ve identified the suspect who poured water on the victims, but the investigation is ongoing, and they ask anyone with information about this case┬áto call the 4th District Investigative Section at 240-773-5530.
