Investigation underway after police shoot, kill motorcyclist

WASHINGTON -- A Metropolitan Police Department officer shot and killed a motorcyclist early Sunday morning after he drove his motorcycle at the officer, who was exiting his cruiser.

The driver, Terrence Sterling, 31, was observed by a different police officer driving his motorcycle recklessly in Northwest. Another officer saw him and began to leave his vehicle to apprehend him. At this point, police say, Sterling drove his motorcycle into the passenger door, which the officer was exiting from.

The officer then fatally shot Sterling, who was taken to an area hospital and pronounced dead. The officer is uninjured and has been placed on administrative leave.
