Police investigate fatal shooting in Lorton, Va.

LORTON, Va. – The Fairfax County Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting in Lorton, Virginia on Wednesday night. The incident left a 17-year-old dead.

According to officials, officers responded to the 9700 block of Hagel Circle around 10:36 p.m. on Wednesday night after a report of the sound of gunshots and a possible shooting. When they arrived on the scene, they found a male victim, lying on the sidewalk, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to his upper body. Personnel from the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department declared the victim dead a short time later. Police have identified that victim as 17-year-old Maurice Anderson Berger.

After a preliminary investigation, police say an unidentified vehicle was reportedly seen leaving the scene. Officers on the scene quickly established around the crime scene. A helicopter was requested, but, due to weather conditions, it was unavailable. Right now, there is no suspect or vehicle description.

The investigation is currently ongoing. Detectives from the Major Crimes Division are currently still on the scene, along with technicians from the Crime Scene Section. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death.
