ROANOKE, Va. — The double stabbing of a man and woman in Roanoke is being investigated by the FBI as a possible ISIS-inspired terror attack, according to CBS News.

Wasil Farooqui, 20, of Roanoke County, was arrested Saturday and charged with two counts of aggravated malicious wounding following what was described as a random knife attack at the Pines Apartments on Banbury Lane.

Both the stabbing victims and witnesses said Farooqui yelled “Allah Akbar” — Arabic for God is Great — during the attack WDBJ reported.

The man and woman were attacked as they entered the apartment complex.

Both survived the attack, but needed to be hospitalized due to their injuries.

“A law enforcement source said the FBI is investigating whether the knife attack was possibly inspired by ISIS and whether the suspect may have been trying to behead his victims,” CBS News reported. “A U.S. intelligence source tells CBS News Farooqui has been on the FBI’s radar for months and is believed to be self-radicalized.”

That source told CBS News that Farooqui first appeared on law enforcement’s radar after he tried to go to Syria earlier this year before returning to the U.S.

Farooqui was arrested when he showed up to the emergency room for treatment, CBS News added.
