 UPDATE: Detectives from the Montgomery County Police – Major Crimes Division, with the assistance of the Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME), have now positively identified all of the victims located deceased at the scene of an explosion and fire at apartment buildings located at 8701 and 8703 Arliss Avenue.

 


SILVER SPRING, Md. - Major Crimes Division, with the assistance of the Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME), have now positively identified six of the victims located deceased at the scene of an explosion and fire at apartment buildings located at  8701 and 8703 Arliss Avenue.

On Friday, August 19, investigators positively identified three victims as, Maria Auxiliadorai Castellon-Martinez, age 53, Augusto Jimenez Sr., age 62, and Saul Paniagua, age 65.

On Tuesday, August 23, investigators positively identified two victims as Deibi “David” Samir Lainez Morales, age 8 and Fernando Josue Hernandez Orellana, age 3.

Thursday, investigators are identifying an additional victim as Aseged Mekonen, age 34.

Investigators continue their work with the ATF and OCME to identify the remaining victim.


SILVER SPRING, Md. - The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) continues its death investigation following a fatal fire that occurred at apartment buildings in the 8700 block of Arliss Street in Silver Spring on the night of Wednesday, August 10.  The Police Department is confirming that today, Tuesday, August 16, personnel located a seventh body within a building.

Police investigators have not yet identified the seven victims.  The bodies have been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for autopsy and possible identification.

The joint investigation between the MCPD, the Department of Fire and Rescue Service, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is ongoing and the possible cause/causes of this fire is still under investigation.  Search and recovery efforts will continue tomorrow.

 


SILVER SPRING, Md. - The Montgomery County Police Department announced that they located the body of a sixth victim from the fatal apartment fire on August 10th. The fire occurred in the 8700 block of Arliss Street in Silver Spring, Maryland. That body was located on Monday afternoon.

The police have yet to identify the five victims. According to officials, the remains have been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for autopsy and possible identification.
