UPDATE: 2 bailiffs, suspect killed at Michigan courthouse, official says

A law enforcement officer has been shot outside the Berrien County Courthouse in St. Joseph, Michigan, according to the Berrien County Sheriff's Department. Michigan State Police have secured the scene, according to a tweet from Gov. Rick Snyder.

ST. JOSEPH, MI (CNN) – Two bailiffs and a suspect are dead after a courthouse shooting in Michigan, Berrien County Undersheriff Chuck Heit said.

One civilian and another officer were injured Monday afternoon, Heit told CNN.

State police secured the scene in St. Joseph, according to a tweet from Gov. Rick Snyder.

Chris Gautz, spokesperson for the Michigan Department of Corrections, told CNN that a corrections employee on the third floor described seeing the gunman run by. That employee says the shooting occurred in or near a third floor-courtroom, Gautz said.

St. Joseph is a town of about 8,300 on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan, some 100 miles by car from Chicago.
