7 injured in Amish Buggy collision

LEONARDTOWN, MD – Seven people were injured after a collision involving an Amish Buggy and another vehicle.

Leonardtown troopers responded to reports of a serious motor vehicle collision at approximately 12:26 a.m. on Friday. Upon arrival to the scene the troopers found an overturned Amish Buggy on the side of the roadway.

The preliminary investigation revealed the Amish Buggy was traveling on the shoulder of westbound MD Rt. 6 in the area of Culver lane. A Nissan Altima  was also traveling westbound MD Rt. 6. The buggy made a left turn, attempting to turn onto Culver Lane from the westbound shoulder. For reasons still under investigation, the Nissan collided with the Amish Buggy. This caused the buggy to overturn. All seven occupants were ejected from the buggy.

Two adults and five children, who were all occupants of the Amish Buggy, were injured in the collision. The two adult patients were flown to Medstar

Washington Hospital Center and the five children were flown to Children’s National Medical Center in DC.  The horse was injured and released into the custody of family from the scene. The driver and passenger of the Nissan were treated by EMS on the scene and released.

This is an ongoing investigation.
