Suspect sought in DC assault of police officer arrested

WASHINGTON, DC - A man involved in the assault of a Metropolitan Police Officer has been arrested.

According to police, the incident occurred on June 25, 2016 in the 1500 block of Alabama Avenue, SE. At approximately 11:37 a.m., a Special Police Officer (SPO) received notification of a subject, later identified as 32-year-old Klein Andrew Lawrence, stealing items from a Giant store. The officer approached Lawrence when he produced a knife and stabbed the SPO multiple times. After a brief struggle, a chase ensued and Lawrence ran in an unknown direction.

Lawrence was located and apprehended in Raleigh, North Carolina after a high speed chase.

He is facing multiple charges including: Assault on a Police Officer and two counts of Strong Arm Robbery.
