MGM National Harbor hiring 3600 for casino and resort
PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, MD. – Thousands of jobs are waiting to be filled in Prince George’s County at the soon to be opened MGM National Harbor casino.
The company cut the ribbon on its employment center this week and Friday, started taking in-person appointments for people interested in applying.
The casino is looking to hire 3,600 people for MGM National Harbor, set to open at the end of the year.
“Across a hundred different job classifications. So that’s everything in our food and beverage, our hotel, our gaming, security. We have our back of house positions, so we have marketing, finance, human resources,” said Logan Gaskill, Vice President of Human Resources. He added because of an agreement with the county, many of the hires will be local. “We have a goal of hiring 40% our employees from Prince George’s County in year one, and that ramps up to 50% in year five.”
On Friday, the casino’s first group of hires graduated from its six-week blackjack dealer course.
“It’s just that it’s something that I wanted to do. I mean, I’m getting ready to turn 57 and this is how I want to retire. You know, I want to work in a casino, I like the atmosphere. I don’t do a whole lot of gambling, but I do craps, so I wanted to learn the other side of it,” said Stevie Stepney.
The employment center used to be Thomas Addison Elementary School, but was taken over and refurbished by MGM National Harbor. Once the company has finished using the building it will return it to the county.
Interested candidates who want to apply in-person can make appointments Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. by calling 301-971-5700.
