UPDATE: One firefighter injured in Md. apartment fire

UPDATE: One firefighter was injured in the fire yesterday in the 13900 block of Brianwood Drive in Laurel, M, officials say. The firefighter, a member of the Laurel Volunteer Fire Department, fell from a ground ladder while helping put out the fire. He was transported to a nearby hospital and held overnight for chest pains. No civilian injuries were reported.

The fire, which took 40 minutes to extinguish, started on a 3rd floor balcony from improper disposal of smoking materials, according to officials. It then extended into the roof of the building.  Nine apartments were damaged, and 22 residents were displaced. Those people are receiving assistance from the Red Cross. It is being reported that the estimated fire loss is at $300,000.

PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, MD – A second alarm has been sounded for an apartment building fire in Laurel.

According to the Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Chief Spokesperson, the building fire is in the 13900 block of Brianwood Drive at the Garden Style Apartments.

All firefighters have been evacuated from the building and no injuries have been reported.
