ELKRIDGE, MD –  The Howard County Police Department is investigation a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred Sunday morning. Shortly before 5:00 a.m. Sunday, the car hit a pole in the 5500 block of Landing Road in Elkridge, Maryland.

According to officials, the initial investigation revealed that a 2014 Infinity QX60 SUV, traveling southbound on Landing Road, lost control in a curve, causing the car to run off the road, striking several trees and a utility pole. The driver, identified as Yash Mitul Shah, 24, was killed. Another passenger, Manav Amvrish Trivedi 17, was transported to Howard County General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported, according to police, as no other passengers were in the car.

Police believe that speed may have been a contributing factor in the collision. Officials also say that the driver was not licensed.

The 5500 block of Landing Road has reopened.
