Police investigate fatal shooting in Northeast D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in the 200 block of 55th Street, Northeast early Sunday morning.

Around 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning, officers to reports of gunshots in the area, according to police. Once they arrived on the scene, they found an adult male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The man was unconscious and unresponsive, and he was later pronounced dead on the scene. Officials say that the victim has been identified as William Arthur Wells Jr., 39, a resident of Southeast, D.C.

A second victim was also found a few block away in the 5500 block of Blaine Street, Northeast. He was also suffering from gunshot wounds. That man was transported to local hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
