Willie Waffle’s Oscar Predictions! – Best Supporting Actor
As you settle in to watch the big Oscars ceremony on Sunday night, I want you to remember Bad Grandpa has 1 Oscar nomination and Tom Hanks has none this year. Let that bounce around your noggin for a moment or two.
Each day, I’ll give you a prediction or two, and you can watch the Oscars on Sunday night to mock me when I am wrong. And, don’t forget to check out NewsPlus with Mark Segraves this Sunday at 10 AM as Mark and I duel it out in an Oscar Predicting Battle with massive consequences!
Today, Best Supporting Actor!
And, the nominees are:
Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club)
Jonah Hill (The Wolf Of Wall Street)
Barkhad Abdi (Captain Phillips)
Michael Fassbender (12 Years A Slave)
Bradley Cooper (American Hustle)
Everyone started hollering when Jared Leto did not win the British Academy Award (BAFTA) a couple weeks ago, but don’t let that throw you off the scent of the biggest lock of Oscar season. Sure, 1/6th of BAFTA voters also vote for the Oscars, but Leto wasn’t even nominated for the BAFTA because the movie hadn’t opened in Britain when the nominations were selected.
Instead, look to those other tried and true indicators that show us how Oscar voters might lean. Leto won the Critic’s Choice (I voted for him), the Golden Globe and the Screen Actors Guild Award. 7 out of the last 10 SAG award winners went on to win the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.
Plus, let’s not forget Jared Leto was and always will be Jordan Catalano in My So-Called Life. I know you might have been giggling there as you read that, but becoming the heartthrob for a generation earned him love and respect from that generation. Those people are voting for the Oscars now.
Waffle Prediction: Jared Leto (Dallas Buyers Club)
